Aquero Company's charitable activity,
The Aquero Foundation, is a 501(c)3, tax exempt, religious, public charity, duly organized and chartered according to
the federal code.
As
described in these pages, The Aquero Foundation is organized to support the Carmel of Maria Regina, a convent of contemplative
sisters of the Catholic Church, located on the outskirts of Eugene, Oregon.
The
Carmel of Maria Regina may support whomever and whatever the Carmel may choose, and in that way the Aquero Foundation may
provide indirect support to other worthy persons, purposes, and intentions.
The
Aquero Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors. Two of the Directors are members of the Sikes family. Mr.
Mark Hochwalt and Dr. Mosongo Moukwa are also Directors. The only other Directorship is held by the current Prioress
of the Carmel Maria Regina, or another Sister who may be appointed by the Prioress.
The rule of Saint Teresa does not encourage the
Carmel to solicit donations or support or ask for anything really except according to necessity. Similarly, the Aquero
Foundation does not have permission to solicit on behalf of the Carmel. However, the Carmel is permitted according to
the rule to accept gifts and other forms of support provided they are not solicited and are freely given. The Aquero
Foundation itself is an example of this type of offering.
